Stay Compliant and Stay Open When Your Fire System Goes Down

What Our Fire Watch Services Cover

Fire watch is a trained person assigned to continuously patrol a building or work area, looking for fire, smoke and fire hazards, when a fire alarm or sprinkler system is impaired or while hot work is underway, and to alert occupants and the fire department immediately if fire is found. Eagle Eye Protection provides licensed, insured and background-screened fire watch officers for property managers, general contractors, facility managers and building owners across Metro Atlanta.

When the fire marshal requires a fire watch, you need an officer on site fast, walking the right route and documenting every round. We handle all three so you can keep occupants in place, keep work moving and avoid a shutdown order.

When Is a Fire Watch Required?

A fire watch is typically required when a required fire protection system is out of service and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), usually your local fire marshal, orders one until the system is restored. Under the NFPA standards most Georgia jurisdictions follow, that commonly applies when a fire alarm system is down more than 4 hours, or a sprinkler system more than 10 hours, in a 24-hour period. Hot work such as welding and torch cutting also requires a fire watch during the work and for a set cool-down period after it ends.

The alternative is usually worse. Without an approved fire watch, the fire marshal can order the building evacuated or the job shut down until the system is back online. For an apartment community, hotel or occupied office, that means displaced residents, lost revenue and liability you do not want. Always confirm the exact requirement with your AHJ, and we will staff to it.

Common Reasons Atlanta Properties Need Fire Watch

Whatever the cause, the fire watch stays in place until your system is repaired, tested and cleared by the AHJ, or until the hot work cool-down period ends.

How Our Fire Watch Officers Protect Your Property

A compliant fire watch is continuous, documented and ready to act. Every fire watch post we run follows the same five steps.

Patrol

Continuous Rounds

Officers walk every floor, stairwell, mechanical room and impaired area on a set route, typically at least once an hour or at the interval your fire marshal sets. The post is never left unattended.

Detect

Hazards & Ignition Sources

Officers check for smoke, heat, fire, blocked exits, propped fire doors, stored combustibles and smoldering hot work debris, and correct or report hazards on the spot.

Alert

911 & Occupants

If fire is found, the officer calls 911 first, then alerts occupants and assists with evacuation. Officers know the building exits and assembly points before their first round.

Log

Inspection-Ready Records

Timestamped logs record every round, the areas checked and any issues found. Logs stay on site and are ready when the fire marshal or your insurance carrier asks for them.

Coordinate

Fire Marshal & Contractors

We work with your property team, fire protection contractor and the AHJ so coverage starts when required and ends only when the system is restored and cleared.

Fire Watch Coverage Options

Every impairment is different. We match coverage to your building, your timeline and what your fire marshal requires.

Fire Watch Services FAQs

What is a fire watch?

A fire watch is a trained person, or team, dedicated to continuously patrolling a building or area to detect fire and fire hazards when fire protection systems are impaired or hot work is underway. The fire watch officer’s job is to spot fire early, call 911, alert occupants and keep a written log of every round.

When is a fire watch required in Georgia?

Your local fire marshal (the AHJ) decides, but a fire watch is commonly required when a required fire alarm or sprinkler system is out of service, often after a fire alarm system has been down more than 4 hours or a sprinkler system more than 10 hours in a 24-hour period, and during hot work. If you have been told a fire watch is required, call 678-578-8787 and we can usually staff it the same day.

How much do fire watch services cost in Atlanta?

Fire watch is billed hourly, generally in line with unarmed security officer rates in Metro Atlanta. The final rate depends on the number of officers needed to cover your building, total hours, how quickly coverage must start and whether it runs overnight, on weekends or on holidays. Our Atlanta security guard pricing guide explains what moves the rate, or call 678-578-8787 for a same-day quote.

How often does a fire watch officer patrol?

Most fire marshals require rounds at least once every hour, and some require more frequent or truly continuous patrols for high-risk or occupied buildings. We build the route and interval around your AHJ’s requirement and document every round.

What goes in a fire watch log?

Each entry records the date, time, officer name, areas checked and any hazards or issues found, along with actions taken. Logs stay on site for inspection and copies are available to your property team, owner or insurance carrier.

How long does a fire watch last?

A fire watch stays in place until the fire protection system is repaired, tested and cleared by the AHJ. For hot work, it continues through the required cool-down period after work stops. Coverage can last a single shift or several weeks, and we scale staffing as your timeline changes.

How fast can you start a fire watch?

Same-day or next-day placement is available across most of Metro Atlanta, including nights and weekends when a system fails without warning. Call 678-578-8787 and we can usually confirm availability and send a quote the same day.
